Overview

Cashew fruit, derived from the *Anacardium occidentale* tree, consists of two primary parts: the cashew nut and the cashew apple (pseudofruit). The cashew apple is a nutrient-dense pseudofruit rich in vitamin C, carbohydrates, and polyphenols such as tannins and flavonoids. In clinical research, cashew apple juice has been investigated for its potential to enhance physical and psychological fitness in the elderly, demonstrating antioxidant properties and the ability to suppress acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activities. These effects are thought to improve cognitive processing, memory, and muscle strength by modulating cholinergic and dopaminergic functions. Additionally, cashew pulp extracts are explored for topical applications in treating acne and preventing premature skin aging due to their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.
