Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cashew nut flour is a functional food ingredient and nutraceutical derived from the kernels of the cashew tree, *Anacardium occidentale*. It is naturally rich in proteins, essential minerals, and bioactive compounds. In clinical research, it has been studied for its potential to improve metabolic health, specifically by reducing blood glucose and non-HDL cholesterol levels in overweight and obese populations. The flour contains phenolic compounds and bioactive peptides that exhibit antioxidant properties by neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS). Furthermore, its insoluble fraction has demonstrated prebiotic effects, supporting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria such as *Bifidobacterium lactis*. It is also being investigated for its immunomodulatory effects, including its impact on leukocyte counts and lipid profiles in children living with HIV.
