Overview

Casimiroin is a naturally occurring small molecule classified as a quinoline derivative. It is isolated from the plant Casimiroa edulis and has also been reported in Dictyoloma vandellianum. Casimiroin functions as an inhibitor of quinone reductase 2 (NQO2), an enzyme involved in cellular redox regulation and detoxification pathways. Preclinical studies have shown that casimiroin and its analogues can inhibit both quinone reductase 2 and aromatase activity. These properties suggest potential chemopreventive or chemotherapeutic applications; however, there are no approved indications or clinical trials for this compound to date[1][2][8].
