Its mechanism of action includes the generation of **reactive oxygen species (ROS)** via redox cycling with glutathione (GSH), causing **oxidative stress**, rapid depletion of cellular GSH, mitochondrial dysfunction, membrane depolarization, and mitochondrial DNA damage. It also interacts with DNA and induces apoptosis and autophagy in tumor cells, while showing selectivity for malignant over normal cells[2][5].
