*Cassia fistula*, commonly known as the Golden Shower Tree or Amaltas, is a medicinal plant native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, widely utilized in traditional Ayurvedic and Siddha medicine. Its primary therapeutic application is as a stimulant laxative for the treatment of chronic functional constipation, often formulated as a syrup, capsule, or jelly, and frequently in combination with *Senna alexandrina* (e.g., the brand Naturetti). The plant's pods and leaves contain bioactive anthraquinone glycosides, such as sennosides and rhein, which promote bowel motility and intestinal secretion. Beyond its gastrointestinal applications, *Cassia fistula* is being investigated for its potential as an alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase inhibitor for diabetes management, an anti-inflammatory agent in rheumatoid arthritis via NF-kappa B pathway modulation, and for its antioxidant and wound-healing properties.
