Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cassia fistula + senna alexandrina is an **herbal combination product** containing extracts from the pods of Cassia fistula (golden shower tree) and the leaves or pods of Senna alexandrina (also called Alexandrian senna). Both plants are long-established **laxatives** in traditional and modern medicinal systems, acting primarily as stimulant and osmotic laxatives due to their anthraquinone glycoside content (especially sennosides). The mechanism of action is primarily by stimulating intestinal motility and reducing water absorption in the colon, leading to increased bowel movements. The combination is indicated for **chronic functional constipation**. Clinical trials of Naturetti (capsule and syrup/jelly formulations) have shown efficacy in improving defecation frequency and stool consistency over placebo. Cassia fistula exhibits additional pharmacological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihyperglycemic, antifungal, and hepatoprotective effects; Senna alexandrina also has mild anti-inflammatory and possible enzyme inhibition effects, but the combination is approved and marketed mainly for its laxative action[2][3][5][6][7].
