Overview

Cassia fistula bark chloroform fraction (CaMC) is a phytochemical extract derived from the bark of the *Cassia fistula* L. plant, commonly known as the Golden shower. It is obtained through sequential solvent extraction using chloroform as part of a process to isolate bioactive constituents from bark powder. Preclinical research indicates that CaMC possesses significant antioxidant, genoprotective, and cytotoxic properties. Mechanistically, the fraction induces apoptosis in various cancer cell lines, including HeLa (cervical cancer), by upregulating pro-apoptotic markers such as p53, caspase 3, and caspase 9, while downregulating the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. It also triggers cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase. A key bioactive component identified within this fraction is Piperine (Cf-1). Research has also explored liposomal encapsulation of the fraction (CaMC-LP) to enhance its anticancer efficacy and tumor growth inhibition in Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma models. It is currently an early-stage research compound primarily studied in academic settings.
