Cassia fistula syrup is a herbal medicinal product derived from the fruit pulp of the *Cassia fistula* L. tree, commonly known as the golden shower tree. It is a staple of traditional Persian Medicine (where it is known as Foloos) and Ayurvedic medicine, primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic and functional constipation. The syrup's therapeutic effect is attributed to its high content of anthraquinone glycosides, such as sennosides and rhein. Upon ingestion, these compounds are metabolized by colonic microflora into active forms that stimulate the myenteric plexus, thereby increasing intestinal motility and peristalsis.
