Overview

CAST is an investigational, standardized **Centella asiatica** botanical extract developed by Oregon Health & Science University for diabetic neuropathy. It contains selected pentacyclic triterpenes, principally asiaticoside, madecassic acid, and asiatic acid. Rather than having a defined single molecular target, its proposed activity is neurotrophic and microcirculatory support in peripheral nerves, with potential disease-modifying effects on diabetic neuropathy. In a 52-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 pilot study in people with type 2 diabetes and symptomatic symmetrical distal neuropathy, CAST was associated with reductions in total neuropathic symptom score and paresthesia.
