Overview

CAStem cells (also known as IMRCs or M cells) are a cell replacement therapy consisting of immunity- and matrix-regulatory cells differentiated from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). Developed by Beijing Zehui Chenxing Biotechnology in collaboration with the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, these cells possess potent immunomodulatory and anti-fibrotic properties. They are designed to modulate the immune system and regulate extracellular matrix production, showing higher expression of genes related to proliferation and tissue repair compared to traditional umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells. CAStem is currently being investigated in clinical trials for various inflammatory and fibrotic conditions, including acute graft-versus-host disease, interstitial lung diseases, ARDS, and COVID-19-related pulmonary complications.
