Overview

cAT-MSC + IFN-β is a combination therapy comprising canine adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (cAT-MSC) genetically engineered to express and secrete interferon-beta (IFN-β). This therapy acts as a targeted cell-based delivery system for IFN-β, leveraging the tumor-homing properties of MSCs to maximize local concentrations of IFN-β at tumor sites. IFN-β provides potent anti-tumor, pro-apoptotic, immunomodulatory, and anti-angiogenic effects. Mechanistically, IFN-β inhibits tumor growth and angiogenesis, induces apoptosis via pathways including FADD/caspase-8 signaling, and disrupts cell cycle progression (primarily by G1 blockade and sometimes prolonging all cell cycle phases). The combination has demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity, especially when used alongside low-dose cisplatin, in preclinical melanoma models in dogs and mice[1][2][3].
