Overview

Cat-PAD is an investigational, allergen-specific peptide immunotherapy for cat allergy, particularly cat allergen-induced allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. It is an equimolar mixture of seven short synthetic T-cell epitope peptides derived from the major cat allergen Fel d 1, designed to induce antigen-specific immune tolerance while minimizing IgE cross-linking associated with intact-allergen immunotherapy. Circassia evaluated intradermal regimens including four 6-nmol doses and eight 3-nmol doses. Environmental exposure chamber studies suggested persistent symptom reductions with the four-dose 6-nmol regimen, but a pivotal Phase III field study did not achieve its primary endpoint because active-treatment outcomes were not significantly different from placebo.
