Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CaTaCo-Hem (Catalysis-Targeted Construct-Haematobium) is a next-generation, 44-kDa recombinant protein subunit vaccine antigen derived from the Schistosoma haematobium calpain ortholog (Sh-p80). Developed by Midwestern University and PAI Life Sciences, it is designed to protect against urogenital schistosomiasis (UGS). CaTaCo-Hem is engineered by deleting certain hydrophobic regions of the full-length 80 kDa Sh-p80 calpain that are not required for enzymatic activity, resulting in a soluble monomer with fewer degradation products and less aggregation when expressed in E. coli. Formulated with proprietary TLR-4 agonist-based adjuvants such as EmT4 or LiT4Q, CaTaCo-Hem-based vaccines have demonstrated robust immunogenicity and efficacy in animal models, inducing high levels of specific IgG antibodies and reducing worm burden, tissue egg burden, and egg viability.
