Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Catiolanze is a prescription ophthalmic emulsion formulation of the prostaglandin F2α analogue latanoprost, developed as a cationic emulsion to enhance ocular surface tolerability while lowering intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension, including children from 4 years of age with elevated intraocular pressure or paediatric glaucoma.[1][5][14] As a hybrid medicine referencing Xalatan, it contains the same active substance but in an oil‑in‑water emulsion rather than solution, and acts as a selective FP receptor agonist that increases uveoscleral outflow (and to a lesser extent trabecular outflow), thereby reducing intraocular pressure and the risk of glaucomatous damage.[1][5][14] The product was developed and is marketed in the EU by Santen, with EU‑wide approval granted in November 2023 based on non‑inferiority to latanoprost solution in phase III trials and improved ocular surface endpoints.[1][4][6][16]
