Overview

Cattle Encephalon Glycoside and Ignotin (CEGI) is a multi-target neuroprotective compound preparation extracted from the muscle tissue of healthy rabbits and cattle brain gangliosides. Approved by the Chinese Food and Drug Administration in 2011 (approval number H22025046), it contains a complex mixture of polypeptides, gangliosides (specifically monosialotetrahexosyl ganglioside, GM-1), free amino acids, and nucleic acids. CEGI is primarily used in China for the treatment of central and peripheral nerve injuries. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials, led by Dr. Rong Hu, for its efficacy and safety in patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage. The drug's mechanism involves protecting neuronal cell membranes, preserving white matter, and exerting anti-inflammatory effects to mitigate secondary brain injury.
