Caumz

Caumz (PPP011) is a cannabinoid-based drug-device combination product developed for the treatment of cancer cachexia and advanced cancer pain. It consists of a drug-drug combination of highly purified delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) delivered via inhalation using a specialized medical vaporizer (the Might Medic medical device). The formulation is designed to bypass first-pass metabolism, providing rapid systemic absorption and potentially reducing the formation of metabolites associated with side effects seen in oral cannabinoid administration. THC acts as a partial agonist at the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, which are involved in appetite stimulation and pain modulation, while CBD provides complementary effects through multiple pathways, including negative allosteric modulation of cannabinoid receptors and interaction with non-cannabinoid targets like TRPV1. The clinical program reached Phase 3 development for cancer cachexia before the developer, Tetra Bio-Pharma, faced significant financial challenges leading to the termination of its clinical trials.
