Cauterex

Cauterex is a topical analgesic cream developed and marketed by Megat Pharmaceutical in Ecuador. Its active ingredient is capsaicin (0.075%), derived from the dried extract of *Capsicum annuum* L. Capsaicin acts as a selective agonist for the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor, which is primarily expressed on nociceptive nerve fibers. Initial application typically causes a localized burning sensation, but repeated use leads to the desensitization of sensory axons and the depletion of substance P, a neurotransmitter involved in pain signaling. Cauterex is indicated for the relief of various pain conditions, including neuropathic pain, muscle pain, and arthritis.
