Overview

CAV-011 is an engineered insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) variant protein being developed by Cavalry Biosciences for the treatment of severe corneal diseases. The molecule is specifically designed to activate the IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) while resisting inhibition by IGF-1 binding proteins (IGFBPs), which are naturally occurring proteins that regulate and often limit the activity of endogenous IGF-1. By overcoming this inhibition, CAV-011 aims to enhance the regenerative signaling required for corneal epithelial repair. The drug is currently in IND-enabling development as a topical ophthalmic solution for indications including neurotrophic keratitis (NK), limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD), and persistent corneal epithelial defects (PCED).
