Cav-1 RNAi refers to RNA interference (RNAi) molecules, such as small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) or short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs), designed to silence the expression of the Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) gene. Caveolin-1 is a primary component of caveolae plasma membrane invaginations and plays a significant role in signal transduction and cellular trafficking. In the context of oncology, particularly bladder cancer, Cav-1 is often overexpressed and associated with aggressive tumor behavior and metastasis. Research indicates that depleting Cav-1 via RNAi can lead to reduced cell migration and decreased metastatic potential by modulating Rho GTPase activity (specifically RhoA and RhoC) and interacting with Src kinase pathways.
