CAV-121 is an investigational ceragenin-based therapeutic candidate being developed by CSA Biotech for the treatment of epidermolysis bullosa (EB). Ceragenins are synthetic small molecules designed to mimic the activity of naturally occurring antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), specifically cathelicidins, which are key components of the innate immune system. By mimicking these peptides, CAV-121 is intended to provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and support innate immune biology to address the chronic skin infections and impaired wound healing characteristic of EB. The compound is currently in preclinical or early-stage investigational development and has not yet received regulatory approval.
