CAWP-1446 is a small molecule PARP-1 inhibitor being developed by Waverley Pharma. It is currently in the preclinical stage of development for the treatment of various cancers, including ovarian cancer, triple-negative breast cancer, melanoma, breast cancer, and lung cancer. As a PARP-1 inhibitor, CAWP-1446 works by inhibiting the enzyme poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1, which plays a crucial role in DNA damage repair. By blocking this enzyme, the drug interferes with the ability of cancer cells to repair DNA breaks, leading to cell death, particularly in cells with existing DNA repair deficiencies (synthetic lethality).
