Overview

Cayratia japonica is a perennial, herbaceous vine in the grape family (Vitaceae), native to tropical and subtropical Asia, Australia, and the West Pacific. It is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine and other Asian folk medicines for its anti-inflammatory, diuretic, detoxifying, antipyretic (fever-reducing), and wound-healing properties. The plant contains bioactive compounds such as luteolin-7-O-glucoside that have been shown to promote wound healing by activating AMPK/CTHRC1/TGF-β1 signaling pathways. Traditionally, various parts of the plant are used to treat swelling, fever (including malaria), rheumatism, headaches, diarrhoea, mumps, jaundice, dysentery, constipation and traumatic injuries. It is also consumed as food; young leaves and flowers can be eaten raw or cooked[1][5][6][7].
