Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CB-027 is a novel, ultra-broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic originally developed by Cubist Pharmaceuticals. It was designed to address multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial infections, demonstrating potent in vitro and in vivo activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Specifically, it showed efficacy comparable to vancomycin and ceftaroline against methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) and was active against ceftazidime-resistant *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Following the acquisition of Cubist by Merck in 2015, the development of CB-027 appears to have been discontinued, as it is no longer listed in active pipelines.
