CB 2782-PEG is a PEGylated, engineered protease specifically designed to degrade and inactivate complement factor C3. It acts by catalytically cleaving C3 into inactive fragments, thereby inhibiting complement activation. This approach positions CB 2782-PEG as a potential long-acting therapy for geographic atrophy associated with dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD), a form of advanced macular degeneration with no currently approved treatments. PEGylation increases the ocular half-life of the molecule, potentially allowing for intravitreal administration as infrequently as three to four times per year. In preclinical primate models, CB 2782-PEG achieved greater than 99% reduction of C3 levels. It is being developed with the aim of achieving robust, sustained inhibition of the complement pathway at the level of C3, which is a clinically validated therapeutic target for geographic atrophy[1][2][3][4][6][7][10].
