CB CAR-NK182 is an investigational cord blood-derived chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) natural killer (NK) cell therapy targeting Claudin18.2 (CLDN18.2). Developed by Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital, this biologic immunotherapy involves genetically modifying NK cells harvested from umbilical cord blood to express a CAR specific for CLDN18.2, a protein frequently overexpressed in certain gastrointestinal malignancies, including gastric and pancreatic cancers. The therapy is designed to harness the innate cytotoxic potential of NK cells while providing targeted specificity against tumor cells, potentially offering a safer alternative to CAR-T cell therapies due to a reduced risk of cytokine release syndrome and graft-versus-host disease. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial to determine the maximum tolerated dose, safety, and preliminary efficacy in patients with advanced gastric cancer and advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
