Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CB2201 is a third-generation recombinant botulinum toxin type A (150 kD natural amino acid sequence) developed by Royi Biologics (AsiFlyer Biotechnology) using an Sf9 insect cell expression system. Unlike traditional botulinum toxins produced via bacterial fermentation of *Clostridium botulinum*, CB2201 is manufactured using recombinant DNA technology, which offers improved purity, consistency, and safety. CB2201 acts as a neurotoxin that binds to synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2 (SV2) on presynaptic nerve terminals, undergoes endocytosis, and subsequently cleaves synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25). This cleavage prevents the assembly of the SNARE complex, thereby blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction and leading to temporary muscle relaxation. CB2201 is currently in Phase II clinical development in China for therapeutic and aesthetic indications, including post-stroke upper limb spasticity, glabellar frown lines, and masseter hypertrophy.
