Overview

CB34 is a small molecule that acts as an agonist for the translocator protein 18 kDa (TSPO), formerly known as the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor. In preclinical studies, CB34 has been shown to inhibit the effect of the TSPO antagonist ONO-2952 on stress-induced noradrenaline release in rats. It also increases the formation of neuroactive steroids in plasma and brain, which in turn can indirectly modulate GABA(A) receptor activity, suggesting a role in mediating specific central effects of ethanol and potentially in stress-related disorders.
