Overview

CBS-105 is an investigational allogeneic cell replacement therapy being developed by CiRC Biosciences for the treatment of treatment-resistant narcolepsy. The therapy is based on CiRC's proprietary chemically induced reprogramming technology, which enables the direct conversion of somatic cells (such as fibroblasts) into specialized functional neurons without passing through a pluripotent stem cell intermediate. For narcolepsy, CBS-105 aims to replace the orexin (hypocretin)-producing neurons in the hypothalamus that are lost or degenerate in patients with Narcolepsy Type 1. By replenishing these essential neurons, the therapy is designed to restore the natural production of hypocretin and stabilize sleep-wake regulation, potentially offering a curative approach for patients who do not achieve adequate relief with current symptomatic medications.
