Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CBT-008 is a novel, proprietary topical ophthalmic solution being developed by Cloudbreak Pharma for the treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) and associated evaporative dry eye disease. The drug is a cyclodextrin-based formulation designed to sequester cholesterol crystal deposits that accumulate at the orifices of the meibomian glands. These cholesterol deposits are a key factor in gland blockage and the degradation of meibum quality, which leads to tear film instability and increased evaporation. By sequestering these crystals, CBT-008 aims to restore gland patency and improve the lipid layer of the tear film. The asset has completed Phase 2 clinical evaluation (NCT05261386), where it was studied for its safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics, demonstrating improved tolerability compared to earlier candidates in the same class.
