Overview

CBT-009 is a novel ophthalmic formulation of atropine developed by Cloudbreak Therapeutics for the treatment of juvenile myopia. Unlike traditional aqueous formulations, CBT-009 is a non-aqueous, preservative-free eye drop designed to enhance the stability and bioavailability of atropine while reducing degradation and microbial growth. This formulation allows for multi-dose packaging without preservatives and requires lower dosages due to improved drug stability and ocular surface residence time. Atropine acts as an anticholinergic agent—specifically a muscarinic receptor antagonist—blocking neurotransmitter action in both central and peripheral nervous systems to slow myopia progression in children[1][2][4][5].
