Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CBT-102 refers to two distinct investigational drugs in development by different companies for separate indications: 1. **CBT-102/CBT102-A by CommBio Therapeutics** This is an orally administered engineered probiotic (genetically modified bacteria) expressing phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), designed as a gene therapy for the treatment of phenylketonuria (PKU). The engineered bacteria metabolize phenylalanine in the gut, reducing systemic levels and addressing the metabolic defect in PKU. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for children with PKU[1][2][3][4]. 2. **CBT-102 by CBT Pharmaceuticals** This is a multi-targeted small molecule kinase inhibitor with anti-cancer activity targeting VEGFR, PDGFR, MAPK, B-RAF, C-RAF, C-KIT and CSF1R. It has demonstrated preclinical efficacy against various solid tumors but does not appear to have entered clinical trials as of 2018[5]. 3. **CBT 102 by CERES BRAIN Therapeutics** Dodecyl creatine ester (also known as CBT 101), an intranasal creatine prodrug under preclinical development for Parkinson's disease; mechanism undefined[7]. The most prominent and advanced "CBT-102" is the engineered probiotic from CommBio Therapeutics for PKU.
