CBUD-1001 is a novel small molecule histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor being investigated for its ability to sensitize colorectal cancer (CRC) cells to tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-induced apoptosis. The drug works by inducing hyper-acetylation of histones, which leads to the up-regulation of death receptor 5 (DR5) through the MAPK/CHOP signaling axis. This mechanism facilitates mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathways, helping to overcome TRAIL resistance in CRC cells. It is primarily developed in an academic research setting at Chungbuk National University.
