CBZed-Nano is a controlled-release nanoparticle formulation of the taxane cabazitaxel, designed to improve the therapeutic index of the drug in solid tumors. The formulation consists of cabazitaxel and methoxy-polyethylene glycol (mPEG) covalently coupled to a carboxymethylcellulose acetate polymer backbone. This nanoparticle delivery system is engineered to enhance the solubility and circulation time of cabazitaxel while providing sustained release of the active payload. Developed through a collaboration involving the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), Triphase Accelerator, and Precision Nanosystems, CBZed-Nano is produced using microfluidic-based NanoAssemblr technology to ensure uniform particle size (approximately 70-94 nm) and spherical morphology. Preclinical studies have demonstrated significant efficacy and improved tolerability compared to free cabazitaxel, particularly in models of docetaxel-resistant prostate cancer and bone metastases.
