Overview

CC-18 is a novel recombinant fusion protein designed as a dual-pathway metabolic therapy that targets the Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) and Activin receptors type IIA and IIB (ActRIIA/B). Developed by Cinnabaris Biotech, CC-18 is engineered to induce substantial weight loss through GLP-1R agonism while simultaneously preserving or increasing lean muscle mass by blocking ActRII signaling, thereby addressing the muscle loss often associated with standard GLP-1 receptor agonists. Preclinical data presented at ADA 2026 demonstrated that CC-18 achieves superior weight loss and fat reduction compared to semaglutide in diet-induced obese mice and monkeys, while also improving glycemic control and lipid profiles. The molecule exhibits potent GLP-1R activation and high binding affinity for ActRIIA/B, showing enhanced durability of weight loss following treatment withdrawal.
