Overview

CCH1 is a botanical drug candidate consisting of a six-herb Chinese herbal formula modified from the ancient Tang Dynasty formula, Wen-Pi-Tang. Developed by the National Taiwan University Hospital Yun-Lin Branch, CCH1 is designed to treat chronic constipation by strengthening gastrointestinal function and facilitating stool passage, particularly in elderly or chronically ill populations. In a randomized, double-blind clinical trial comparing CCH1 to lactulose in nursing home residents, the formula demonstrated superior efficacy in increasing spontaneous bowel movements and reducing the need for rescue laxatives and rectal treatments. The herbal preparation is manufactured by Sun Ten Pharmaceutical and is administered as an oral powder.
