Overview

CCL22MP is an experimental sustained-release formulation consisting of recombinant C-C motif chemokine ligand 22 (CCL22) encapsulated within polymeric microparticles. The microparticles are engineered from a blend of PEG-terminated poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and RG502H polymers to provide an initial chemotactic signal followed by a stable, long-term gradient. Administered intramuscularly following skeletal muscle injury, the therapy acts as an agonist for the C-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CCR4), specifically recruiting regulatory T cells (Tregs) to the site of injury. This targeted recruitment modulates the local immune response by promoting the conversion of pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages to anti-inflammatory, pro-regenerative M2 macrophages, thereby reducing the area of injury and enhancing functional strength recovery. Preclinical studies in murine models have demonstrated significant improvements in limb function and muscle healing.
