Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CCM-CL is a novel formulation of colistin (polymyxin E), a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic, developed by Original BioMedicals using its proprietary Chelating Complex Micelles (CCM) technology. Colistin is a last-resort antibiotic used to treat severe infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDR-GNB), such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but its clinical utility is severely limited by high nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity. By encapsulating colistin within metal-coordinated polymeric micelles (PEG-b-PGA), CCM-CL significantly improves the drug's pharmacokinetic profile, extending its half-life and increasing plasma exposure (AUC) while reducing systemic toxicity and renal accumulation. Preclinical studies in murine models of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia have demonstrated that CCM-CL provides a superior safety profile and significantly higher survival rates compared to free colistin.
