Overview

CCR5mAb004 is a monoclonal antibody developed as an investigational therapy for HIV-1 infection. It targets the C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) receptor, a key co-receptor on the surface of immune cells that facilitates HIV-1 entry into host cells. By binding specifically and with high affinity to human CCR5, CCR5mAb004 blocks HIV-1 from entering and infecting these cells. Preclinical studies demonstrated potent inhibition of HIV replication without agonistic activity or effector functions, and with a prolonged serum half-life. In Phase 1 clinical trials, intravenous administration of CCR5mAb004 in individuals with CCR5-tropic HIV-1 was found to be safe and well tolerated, showing meaningful antiviral activity including significant reductions in viral load at higher doses[2][3][5]. The drug was initially developed by Human Genome Sciences.
