CD001 Fusion Protein

CD001 is a bifunctional recombinant fusion protein developed by Protheragen for the treatment of cancer. It is designed to simultaneously target the Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 (PD-1) receptor and deliver Interleukin-21 (IL-21) directly to the tumor microenvironment. The PD-1 antagonist component blocks the inhibitory PD-1/PD-L1 pathway, thereby reversing T-cell exhaustion and restoring anti-tumor immunity. Concurrently, the IL-21 moiety acts as an agonist for the IL-21 receptor, promoting the proliferation, differentiation, and effector function of CD8+ T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. This dual mechanism aims to enhance the durability and potency of the immune response against solid tumors, potentially overcoming resistance to conventional checkpoint inhibitor monotherapies. CD001 is currently in Phase I clinical development.
