Overview

CD133-Pyro is a targeted photodynamic therapy (PDT) agent created by conjugating pyropheophorbide-a (a photosensitizer) to a peptide that specifically binds CD133, a cell surface protein highly expressed on colorectal cancer stem cells. This conjugate is designed to increase tumor selectivity, delivering the photosensitizer directly to cancer stem cells and reducing off-target toxicity. When activated by light, CD133-Pyro generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to suppression of stemness properties and induction of autophagic cell death in colorectal cancer stem cells, and has been shown to have potent inhibitory effects on tumor growth in xenograft models[1][2][3].
