CD147-CAR-T is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting CD147 (also known as Basigin or EMMPRIN), a transmembrane glycoprotein that is highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and associated with poor prognosis. Developed by the Intervention and Cell Therapy Center at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, the therapy involves engineering a patient's own T cells to express a CAR specific for CD147. In clinical trials for advanced HCC, these cells are administered via hepatic arterial interventional infusion to increase the local concentration of the therapeutic cells within the tumor-bearing liver while minimizing systemic exposure. CD147 is involved in various pathological processes, including tumor cell proliferation, apoptosis resistance, and the induction of matrix metalloproteinases that facilitate tissue remodeling and metastasis.
