Overview

CD147 CAR T cells are a form of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy engineered to target the CD147 antigen (also known as Basigin), which is overexpressed on the surface of various tumor types including hematologic malignancies such as T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and solid tumors like hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). These therapies use autologous or allogeneic human T lymphocytes genetically modified to express a synthetic receptor that recognizes and binds to CD147 on cancer cells. Upon engagement with their target, these engineered T cells become activated and mediate direct cytotoxicity against tumor cells while releasing cytokines that further recruit immune responses. Preclinical studies have demonstrated potent anti-tumor activity in both hematologic and solid tumor models with manageable safety profiles. Some versions incorporate inducible systems for enhanced control over activity[1][4][5].
