CD147 shRNA is a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) designed to specifically silence the expression of the CD147 gene, also known as Basigin or Extracellular Matrix Metalloproteinase Inducer (EMMPRIN), through the mechanism of RNA interference (RNAi). CD147 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes, including tumor progression, metastasis, angiogenesis, and cellular glycolysis. By introducing shRNA molecules that are complementary to CD147 messenger RNA (mRNA), the shRNA is processed within the cell to trigger the degradation of the target mRNA, thereby preventing the translation of the CD147 protein. This downregulation of CD147 protein expression aims to inhibit its pro-tumorigenic functions, such as inducing matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), promoting cell proliferation and invasion, and enhancing glycolysis in cancer cells. CD147 shRNA is primarily investigated as a therapeutic approach for various cancers where CD147 is overexpressed and contributes to disease pathology.
