CD148CARNKcells represent a novel adoptive cell therapy utilizing natural killer (NK) cells genetically engineered to express a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) specifically designed to recognize and bind to the CD148 antigen. This engineering process transforms NK cells into targeted therapeutic agents, enabling them to identify and eliminate cancer cells that express CD148. As a form of CAR-NK cell therapy, it aims to leverage the inherent cytotoxic capabilities of NK cells while enhancing their specificity and efficacy against malignant cells. This approach is being explored as a potential treatment for various cancers, offering advantages such as reduced risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and cytokine release syndrome (CRS) compared to CAR-T cell therapies, and the potential for off-the-shelf availability. The therapy functions by redirecting the NK cells' killing machinery towards CD148-expressing tumor cells, leading to their destruction. CD148, a receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase, has been identified as a prognostic marker and plays a role in the progression of several cancers, making it a relevant target for immunotherapy.
