CD19 CAR-T (Zhejiang University) is an investigational autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target the CD19 antigen. Developed by researchers at Zhejiang University, the therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial (NCT05828212) for patients with relapsed or refractory neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). The mechanism of action involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that identifies and binds to CD19-positive B lymphocytes and antibody-secreting plasma cells. By depleting these cell populations, the therapy aims to eliminate the source of pathogenic autoantibodies, such as those targeting aquaporin-4 (AQP4), thereby reducing central nervous system inflammation and preventing disease progression in NMOSD patients.
