Overview

CD19-targeted CAR T cells (Southwest Hospital) is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Southwest Hospital in China for the treatment of relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies. The therapy involves the ex vivo genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR specific for the CD19 antigen, a protein consistently expressed on the surface of B-lineage cells. Once reinfused into the patient, these engineered T cells recognize and eliminate CD19-positive malignant cells through targeted cytotoxicity. Clinical investigations at Southwest Hospital have evaluated this therapy in Phase 1/2 trials for patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and various forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Research has also explored the sequential administration of CD19-targeted CAR T cells followed by CD20-targeted CAR T cells to mitigate the risk of antigen escape and improve durable response rates.
