Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CD2-targeted interleukin-2 nanoparticles are biodegradable poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles decorated with anti-CD2 antibodies and encapsulating interleukin-2 (IL-2). Developed by General Nanotherapeutics, these nanoparticles are designed to target CD2-bearing T cells and natural killer (NK) cells in vivo. By delivering IL-2 directly to these target cells, the nanoparticles promote the expansion and functional stability of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and induce TGF-beta-producing NK cells, mimicking maternal-fetal tolerance mechanisms. This targeted approach aims to restore immune homeostasis and suppress autoimmune responses in conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis, while avoiding the toxicities associated with systemic cytokine administration or broad immunosuppression.
