CD2314 is a synthetic retinoid that acts as a selective agonist for the retinoic acid receptor beta (RARβ). It is primarily utilized as a pharmacological research tool to investigate the distinct biological roles of retinoic acid receptor subtypes (RARα, RARβ, and RARγ) in cellular processes such as differentiation, apoptosis, and gene expression. In the context of hematological research, CD2314 has been used to demonstrate that RARβ activation alone is insufficient to induce significant differentiation in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cells, a therapeutic effect that is predominantly mediated through the RARα receptor. Developed by researchers at CIRD Galderma, CD2314 is also used to study the regulation of cytochrome P450 enzymes, such as CYP26B1, within the bone marrow microenvironment, which contributes to the metabolic inactivation of retinoids like all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA).
