CD3-depleted allogeneic bone marrow cells is an experimental cell therapy developed by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for the treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). The therapy consists of donor-derived bone marrow mononuclear cells that have been depleted of CD3+ T cells using the CliniMACS device to minimize the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). This cell product contains a mixture of mesenchymal progenitor cells and hematopoietic stem cells (CD34+). It is intended as a "boost" infusion for patients with severe (Type III) OI who have previously received a standard bone marrow transplant. The goal of the therapy is to enhance bone mineral density, increase growth velocity, and reduce fracture rates by providing a source of healthy, collagen-producing osteoblast precursors without the need for additional chemotherapy conditioning.
