Overview

CD33 CAR-T (Zhejiang University) is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target CD33, a 67-kDa glycosylated transmembrane protein expressed on the surface of leukemic blasts in approximately 90% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cases. The therapy involves the genetic modification of T-cells to express a CAR that specifically binds to CD33, triggering T-cell activation, proliferation, and the subsequent cytotoxic elimination of CD33-positive myeloid cells. Developed by Zhejiang University, this autologous or donor-derived cell therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy in patients with relapsed or refractory AML, a population with significant unmet medical needs due to high rates of treatment resistance and relapse.
